Building a Resilient, Future-Ready Campus Network

St Euphemia College is a leading K–12 school in Sydney, ranked in the top 100 NSW schools for ATAR results. Known for academic excellence alongside strong cultural and faith-based values, the College is home to nearly 800 students and staff on a single campus.

As teaching and learning became more digital, the school’s leadership realised something important: their ICT environment wasn’t built for the future.

The Challenge

Outdated Systems in a Digital-First Learning World

Classrooms increasingly relied on laptops, tablets, and cloud applications — but the school’s IT backbone wasn’t up to the task.

The existing infrastructure struggled to support hundreds of devices at once. Wi-Fi coverage was patchy, internet connections weren’t resilient, and sensitive student and staff data sat on ageing on-premise systems.

The leadership team knew technology was now as critical as textbooks. To maintain learning gains, they needed a secure, scalable, high-performance network that could handle today’s digital curriculum and tomorrow’s demands.

The approach

Planning Before Upgrading

C4X began with a six-month ICT audit and vendor review, working with the College’s Board and executive team to map out a long-term plan. Instead of pushing quick fixes, we developed a staged ICT Business Plan designed around budget cycles and minimal classroom disruption.

The rollout followed a deliberate order: start with the campus backbone (fibre and internet), move into high-density Wi-Fi, modernise ICT labs, and then migrate services to the cloud. Each stage built on the last, so the College could transform its digital environment while keeping teaching and learning on track.

the solution

A Future-Proof Digital Backbone

Campus Network Transformation

We installed a new single-mode fibre network in a dual-ring configuration, ensuring full redundancy if one connection fails. This created a 40Gb backbone (expandable to 100Gb+) — enough capacity for hundreds of simultaneous users without slowing down.

Reliable Internet with Backup

Two separate 1Gbps fibre internet links were deployed, with load balancing and automatic failover to guarantee uptime. A dedicated firewall with education-grade content filtering was introduced to keep students safe online.

Campus-Wide Wi-Fi

High-density wireless was rolled out across classrooms, labs, auditoriums, offices, and key outdoor areas, giving every student and staff member reliable, fast access wherever they are on campus.

Modernised ICT Labs & Standard Devices

Two fully equipped computer labs were built with high-performance desktops capable of running demanding applications like Adobe Creative Cloud and Autodesk. A standardised device setup (SOE) was deployed across the school, ensuring every machine was consistent, secure, and easy to manage.

Cloud & Communication Upgrades

A new cloud-hosted VoIP phone system reduced telephony costs and integrated directly with Outlook and Microsoft 365. The school’s 800 mailboxes were migrated from on-premise Exchange into Microsoft 365, enabling Teams for collaboration, Intune for mobile device management, and cloud-hosted systems like the library database.

the outcome

Resilient, Secure, and Built for the Future

With C4X, St Euphemia now has a campus-wide IT environment that supports learning rather than holding it back. The College operates on a redundant, high-capacity fibre backbone with dual internet links and resilient switches – meaning downtime is no longer a concern. Every student and teacher enjoys reliable Wi-Fi access, modern labs are equipped for creative and technical learning, and cloud systems make communication and collaboration seamless.

By following a staged, carefully managed roadmap, C4X delivered transformative upgrades without disrupting day-to-day learning. The College now has a digital foundation that is secure, scalable, and ready for the future.

Looking Ahead

For St Euphemia, this was more than an IT upgrade — it was a digital transformation aligned with their mission to deliver excellence in education. With C4X as their technology partner, the College can confidently expand into initiatives like BYOD (bring your own device), cloud identity management, and new digital learning platforms, knowing their network is resilient, secure, and built to last.
